Avita MD provides comprehensive men's health care for adults at our clinics in Los Altos, Mountain View, and Los Gatos. Our services include testosterone evaluation, prostate health screening, cardiovascular risk assessment, metabolic health evaluation, hormone optimization, and management of conditions like erectile dysfunction, fatigue, and weight gain. We accept Medicare, most major PPO plans, and HMO plans.

We are a physician-owned practice with 12 providers and same-day appointment availability. On-site phlebotomy and EKG at all three locations mean your testing and exam happen in one visit.

Testosterone and Hormone Health

Testosterone levels in men typically decline by about 1% per year after age 30. By the time many men notice symptoms, levels may have dropped significantly. Fatigue, reduced muscle mass, weight gain around the midsection, low libido, irritability, poor concentration, and disrupted sleep are all potential signs of low testosterone.

At Avita MD, we start with a comprehensive blood panel that includes total and free testosterone, estradiol, DHEA-S, sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG), cortisol, and thyroid hormones. We also check metabolic markers, liver function, and a complete blood count. If your levels are low, we discuss the full range of options, from lifestyle modifications and sleep optimization to bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT).

When testosterone replacement therapy is appropriate, we deliver it through topical creams and gels, injections, or pellet therapy, and recommend the method that best fits your profile and lifestyle. Energy and libido often improve within a few weeks, while changes in body composition, cognition, and mood typically develop over two to three months.

We do not prescribe testosterone without a clear diagnosis and thorough evaluation. And if we do start treatment, we monitor your levels regularly to keep you in an optimal range with minimal side effects.

Prostate Health

Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer in American men. Early detection through PSA (prostate-specific antigen) testing can catch it when it is most treatable. Your provider will discuss when PSA screening makes sense for you based on your age, family history, and risk factors.

Beyond cancer screening, we also evaluate and manage benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), which causes urinary symptoms like frequent urination, weak stream, and nighttime waking. When specialist care is needed, we coordinate referrals to urologists at El Camino Health, Stanford, and UCSF.

Cardiovascular Risk Assessment

Heart disease is the leading cause of death in men. Many risk factors, like high blood pressure, elevated cholesterol, and insulin resistance, develop silently for years. A standard cholesterol test tells only part of the story. At Avita MD, we can run advanced lipid panels with particle size and number, measure inflammatory markers (hs-CRP, homocysteine), and perform on-site EKG testing.

For patients with family history or elevated risk, we coordinate coronary calcium scoring and other advanced imaging. Learn more about our heart health services.

Metabolic Health and Weight Management

Insulin resistance, pre-diabetes, and metabolic syndrome are common in men and often go undiagnosed on standard blood work. We test fasting insulin, HbA1c, and comprehensive metabolic markers to identify problems early. If your weight is not responding to diet and exercise, hormonal and metabolic factors may be contributing, and we investigate those before assuming it is a willpower issue.

Erectile Dysfunction and Sexual Wellness

Erectile dysfunction (ED) affects more than half of men over 40 to some degree. It can be caused by low testosterone, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, medication side effects, psychological factors, or a combination. We evaluate the underlying cause as part of our sexual wellness care, which is important because ED is sometimes an early warning sign of heart disease. Treatment may include hormone therapy, medication, lifestyle changes, or referral to a urologist.
