Medically reviewed by Dr. Patricia Sitnitsky, M.D. · Last reviewed July 2026
Avita MD offers physician-supervised medical weight loss programs at our clinics in Los Altos, Mountain View, and Los Gatos. We prescribe and monitor GLP-1 medications, including semaglutide and tirzepatide, as part of a personalized treatment plan that includes metabolic testing, nutrition guidance, and ongoing lab work. We accept Medicare, most major PPO plans, and HMO plans, and offer same-day appointments.
We are a physician-owned practice with 12 providers, three locations across the Bay Area, and more than 890+ five-star reviews on Google. Our medical weight loss program is led by Dr. Patricia Sitnitsky, who is board-certified in Obesity Medicine. Our patients trust us because we take the time to understand their health, explain every step, and stay involved throughout treatment.
How Our Medical Weight Loss Program Works
Every patient starts with a thorough evaluation. Your provider reviews your medical history, current medications, and weight loss goals. We run comprehensive metabolic testing and body composition analysis during your first visit, and we order supporting labs such as thyroid, testosterone, estrogen, and cortisol hormone panels along with metabolic and nutritional screening. Because we have on-site phlebotomy at every location, your labs are drawn the same day. No separate trip to an outside lab.
To personalize your plan further, we can use genetic testing through 3x4 Genetics, which helps us match your nutrition, activity, and medication approach to your individual biology. Our program is led by Dr. Patricia Sitnitsky, who is board-certified in Obesity Medicine.
Based on your results, your provider builds a personalized treatment plan. For most patients, this includes a GLP-1 medication (semaglutide or tirzepatide), nutrition guidance, and lifestyle modifications tailored to your schedule and preferences. There is no generic meal plan or cookie-cutter protocol. Your plan is built around your life.
GLP-1 Medications: Semaglutide and Tirzepatide
GLP-1 and GLP-1-GIP receptor agonists are the most significant advancement in medical weight loss in decades. Semaglutide (the active ingredient in Ozempic and Wegovy) is a GLP-1 medication, and tirzepatide (the active ingredient in Mounjaro and Zepbound) acts on both the GLP-1 and GIP pathways. These medications work by mimicking hormones your body produces naturally after eating. They reduce appetite, slow gastric emptying, and improve blood sugar regulation. Patients who struggled for years with diet and exercise alone often see meaningful, sustained results.
We start at a low dose and increase gradually based on how you respond. Most patients notice improved appetite control and more energy within the first few weeks, followed by steady weight loss over several months. Your provider monitors your progress with regular check-ins and lab work, adjusting the medication as needed. If you experience side effects, we address them right away. This is physician-supervised care, not a prescription mill.
Ongoing Monitoring and Support
Weight loss is not just about the first few months. Maintaining your results requires ongoing attention. We schedule regular follow-up visits for lab work, medication adjustments, and progress reviews. Your provider tracks your metabolic markers, body composition, and overall health over time, the same way we track cholesterol or blood pressure for our primary care patients.
If questions come up between visits, you can reach us by phone. We answer when you call. If your treatment plan needs adjusting, we do not make you wait weeks for an appointment.
Who Is a Good Candidate
Medical weight loss with GLP-1 medications is appropriate for adults (18 and older) with a BMI of 30 or higher, or a BMI of 27 or higher with a weight-related health condition such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, or high cholesterol. If you have tried diet and exercise without lasting results, or if your weight is affecting your health, this program may be right for you.
During your first visit, your provider will review your full health picture and determine whether GLP-1 medication is safe and appropriate for you. Not everyone is a candidate, and we will be straightforward about that.

Frequently Asked Questions About Medical Weight Loss
What medications does Avita MD prescribe for weight loss?
Avita MD prescribes GLP-1 receptor agonists, including semaglutide (the active ingredient in Ozempic and Wegovy) and tirzepatide (the active ingredient in Mounjaro and Zepbound). These medications work by regulating appetite and blood sugar. Your provider will recommend the right medication based on your health history, current medications, and weight loss goals.
How much weight can I expect to lose?
Results vary by person, and your provider will set realistic expectations during your first visit. In clinical trials, semaglutide produced average weight loss of roughly 15 percent of body weight and tirzepatide roughly 20 percent over about 68 to 72 weeks. Your own results may differ. At Avita MD, we combine medication with nutrition guidance and lifestyle modifications to help you reach and maintain your goal.
Do I need blood work before starting?
Yes. We run comprehensive metabolic testing and body composition analysis before prescribing any medication. This helps us rule out underlying conditions, establish your baseline, and choose the safest approach. Supporting labs may include thyroid, testosterone, estrogen, and cortisol hormone panels along with metabolic and nutritional screening, since hormones and metabolism strongly influence weight. Avita MD has on-site phlebotomy at all three locations, so your labs and your consultation happen in one visit.
How is my weight loss plan personalized?
Avita MD personalizes each weight loss plan using your lab results, hormone panels, and metabolic and nutritional screening, and we can add genetic testing through 3x4 Genetics to tailor the approach further. Dr. Patricia Sitnitsky is board-certified in Obesity Medicine and leads a program built around your individual biology rather than a one-size-fits-all protocol.
What results can I expect in the first few weeks?
Most patients notice improved appetite control and more energy within the first few weeks of starting a GLP-1 or GLP-1-GIP medication, followed by steady weight loss over several months. At Avita MD, your provider monitors your progress with regular check-ins and lab work and adjusts your plan as your body responds.
Does insurance cover medical weight loss?
Coverage depends on your specific plan. Some PPO and Medicare plans cover weight loss consultations and lab work. GLP-1 medications may or may not be covered. Our team will verify your benefits before your first visit so you know what to expect. Avita MD accepts Medicare, most major PPO plans, and HMO plans.
How often will I need to come in?
Most patients come in monthly for the first few months for medication adjustments, lab work, and check-ins. Once you are stable on your medication and progressing well, visits may be spaced out to every six to eight weeks. We monitor your progress closely and adjust your plan as needed.
Is medical weight loss safe?
When supervised by a physician, GLP-1 medications have a strong safety profile. Your Avita MD provider reviews your full medical history before prescribing, monitors your labs throughout treatment, and adjusts your dosage based on how you respond. This is not a one-size-fits-all program. Every decision is made with your individual health in mind.
Where are your clinics located?
